Bangladesh Premier League Investigation: 10 Players, Including 6 International Stars, Accused of Match-Fixing, 4 Franchises Under Suspicion
Amidst ongoing disputes over player salaries, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is now facing serious allegations of match-fixing. On Monday, February 3rd, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) launched an independent investigation into these claims. The investigation is currently focused on eight matches from the current season of the league. Among those under scrutiny are six international players and four franchises, totaling ten individuals accused of involvement in match-fixing.
BCB President, Faruk Ahmed, stated, “If any player is found involved in any wrongdoing, strict action will be taken. We will not spare any wrongdoer.”
He further added in an interview with Cricbuzz, “Until the investigation is complete, we cannot make any official comments, as we must adhere to protocol. Every incident during the tournament is documented and later investigated.”
In the meantime, the BPL-2024-25’s Qualifier-2 match will take place on Wednesday evening at 6 PM in Mirpur, between Chattogram Kings and Khulna Tigers. Fortune Barishal has already secured a place in the final, having defeated Chattogram Kings by 9 wickets in Qualifier-1. The final match will be held on February 7th in Mirpur.
Suspicious Activities Noted During League Matches
Several matches during the ongoing BPL have raised concerns due to suspicious activities, such as bowlers repeatedly delivering wides and no-balls, questionable selection of playing elevens, and slow batting despite large target requirements. These activities have prompted the BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit to launch an investigation into these eight matches.

Former Bangladesh Captain Banned for Fixing
Match-fixing allegations are not new to the Bangladesh Premier League. In the 2014 season, former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful was found guilty of involvement in fixing and was banned for eight years.
The ongoing investigation by the BCB aims to maintain the integrity of the league and ensure fair play.
