IND vs NZ: What Happens If Rain Interrupts the Champions Trophy Final? Know the Rules
The Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand is set to take place on Sunday, March 9, in Dubai. India secured its spot in the final by defeating Australia in the semi-finals, while New Zealand triumphed over South Africa to book their place. However, there are concerns that rain could play a spoilsport in the much-awaited clash. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already set rules in place for a rain-affected final.
Rain Rules for the Final
If rain interrupts the final, the match can be shortened by reducing the number of overs. According to ICC regulations, at least 20 overs per side must be played for the final to be considered valid. If rain disrupts the match significantly, the game will be postponed to the reserve day on March 10.
Super Over in Case of a Tie
In the event of a draw or tie, the winner will be decided through a Super Over. Under the Super Over rules, both teams will get a chance to bat for one over each, and the team with the higher score will be declared the winner.
India Defeated New Zealand in the Group Stage
Team India has been in dominant form, winning all their group-stage matches. They defeated Bangladesh and Pakistan before overcoming New Zealand in the group stage. In that match, India set a target of 250 runs, and New Zealand was bowled out for 205 runs. Varun Chakravarthy starred with the ball, claiming five wickets. Now, both teams are set to face off once again in the high-stakes final, where India will look to repeat its group-stage success, while New Zealand will aim for redemption.
