IPL 2025: LSG Bowler Digvesh Singh Rathi Fined for Celebration During Match

During the 13th match of IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) young spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi faced disciplinary action for his celebration after dismissing Punjab Kings’ batter Priyansh Arya. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has fined him 25% of his match fee and awarded him a demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.

Controversial Celebration Leads to Penalty

The incident occurred when Priyansh Arya was caught out on the final ball of the third over. In response, Digvesh performed a “letter-writing” celebration, which was deemed inappropriate by the match officials. The BCCI swiftly imposed a penalty, stating that the bowler had breached Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Digvesh accepted the Level 1 offense and the referee’s decision.

Punjab Kings Secure Victory

The match, held at the Ekana Stadium, saw Punjab Kings defeat Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets. LSG had set a target of 172 runs, which Punjab chased successfully. Despite Digvesh’s impressive bowling, his controversial celebration overshadowed his performance.

Who is Digvesh Singh Rathi?

Digvesh Singh Rathi, a leg-spinner known for his bowling style similar to Sunil Narine, gained attention during the 2024 Delhi Premier League. Representing South Delhi Superstars, he took 14 wickets in 10 matches with an economy rate of 7.83. His impressive performance earned him a spot in the LSG squad for IPL 2025, where he was acquired for ₹30 lakh.

While Digvesh’s skills have been promising, this disciplinary action serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the IPL’s conduct guidelines.
