9/11-Like Attack in Russia’s Kazan: 8 Ukrainian Drone Strikes Target 6 Residential Buildings; Kazan Airport Shut Down
On Saturday morning, Russia’s Kazan city witnessed an attack reminiscent of America’s 9/11 tragedy. According to news agency Reuters, eight drone attacks occurred in Kazan, with six of them targeting residential buildings. The attack took place approximately 800 kilometers away from Moscow. As of now, no casualties have been reported.
Several videos of the attack are circulating on social media, showing drones crashing into buildings. Following the incident, two airports in Russia were temporarily shut down.
This attack on Kazan has sparked global discussions, especially because the city hosted the BRICS Summit earlier this year in 2024.
In 2001, terrorists similarly hijacked four planes and attacked America’s World Trade Center. Out of these, three planes crashed into significant buildings one after the other. The first crash occurred at 8:45 PM when a Boeing 767 collided with the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Eighteen minutes later, another Boeing 767 hit the South Tower.
Similar Attack on Russia Occurred 4 Months Ago
Four months ago, Russia faced a similar attack. Ukraine targeted the 38-story residential building “Volga Sky” in Saratov city, Russia. This city also houses a strategic bomber military base. The attack left four people injured.
In response, Russia launched a counterattack on Ukraine, firing 100 missiles and 100 drones. This retaliation resulted in six deaths and left over 150 people injured.

Kazan, the Host City of 2024 BRICS Summit, Witnesses a Major Attack
The recent attack on Kazan has garnered global attention, as the city hosted the 2024 BRICS Summit earlier this year. This 16th BRICS Summit, held in Kazan, marked a significant milestone with the inclusion of four new member countries: the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
The attack is being compared to the 9/11 attacks in the United States, which targeted the World Trade Center.
