Clashes Erupt in Bhadra Amid Police Presence: SRP Steps In as Karanj Police Fails to Act
Ahmedabad – In a shocking display of lawlessness, Ahmedabad witnessed yet another breakdown of order, this time in the bustling Bhadra area. While the city is still reeling from the recent Vastral incident, chaos erupted in Bhadra during an anti-encroachment drive, where illegal vendors clashed with the estate department and SRP officers, all while local police remained mere spectators.
According to reports, certain anti-social elements have been operating fearlessly due to their alleged ties with Karanj Police. The situation escalated to the point where, after Karanj Police refused to provide security, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had to deploy SRP personnel to carry out the operation.

Tensions Rise as Illegal Vendors Resist Eviction
Amid efforts to clear illegal encroachments, the estate department and SRP officers faced fierce resistance. The Bhadra Patharna Market, stretching from Bhadra Kali Temple to Teen Darwaza, has long been plagued by unauthorized hawkers who allegedly pay bribes to local goons and influential figures to continue their trade. While 850 licensed vendors operate legally, many others set up shop illegally, reportedly with police backing.
The eviction drive saw a heated altercation between the estate department and hawkers, with verbal spats escalating into physical scuffles. Despite clear legal mandates, Karanj Police refrained from intervening, prompting questions about their alleged collusion with local criminals.

Illegal Vendors Operate with Alleged Police Support
Estate department officials, speaking anonymously, revealed that despite repeated efforts over the past six months to remove unauthorized hawkers, local authorities have provided no assistance. The officials claim that influential local leaders threaten and obstruct their work, with alleged backing from the police.
As law enforcement agencies struggle to maintain order, civic authorities have begun compiling a list of individuals involved in illegal encroachments and extortion. Calls are growing for strict legal action and demolition drives to curb the increasing lawlessness in the area.
While the AMC and SRP continue their crackdown, the absence of local police intervention raises serious concerns about governance and law enforcement in Ahmedabad.
