Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted a brief selfie video expressing her friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the video, she greets their followers with a cheerful “Hi friends, from #Melodi”. The two leaders met recently on Friday, during Prime Minister Modi’s day-long visit to Apulia in southern Italy. 

This visit marked his first foreign engagement since beginning his unprecedented third term as India’s Prime Minister. During the visit, PM Modi extended gratitude to Italian PM Meloni for the invitation to participate in the G7 Summit, underscoring the strengthening ties between the two nations.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the country’s first woman prime minister, delighted her followers by sharing a five-second video on her X account on Saturday. In the video, she cheerfully greeted viewers with “Hello from the Melodi team,” while behind her, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 73, was seen laughing. PM Modi reciprocated the gesture by resharing the video with the caption “Long live India-Italy friendship!”

Earlier on Saturday, a selfie of the two leaders at the G7 Summit had gone viral, further cementing the camaraderie between India and Italy on the international stage. These interactions highlight the warmth and solidarity between the two nations under the leadership of PM Meloni and PM Modi.

In December last year, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi captured a memorable moment on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai. 

PM Meloni shared the selfie on social media, captioning it, “Good friends at COP28, #Melodi.” This snapshot underscores their friendly rapport and collaborative spirit in addressing global challenges, further enhancing the bond between India and Italy on the international stage.

India and Italy Strengthen Bilateral Ties Across Multiple Fronts

During their bilateral talks on Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni conducted a comprehensive review of their countries’ bilateral strategic partnership. 

They agreed to enhance cooperation across global forums and multilateral initiatives, with a particular focus on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. Prime Minister Modi took to social media platform X to express his satisfaction with the discussions, stating, “Had a very good meeting with PM @GiorgiaMeloni.” 

He highlighted their discussions on strengthening India-Italy relations in key sectors such as commerce, energy, defence, and telecom. Additionally, both leaders committed to collaboration in emerging fields like biofuels, food processing, and critical minerals, emphasizing their shared commitment to advancing mutual interests and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
