Tensions Escalate Again at Seventh Day School, Clashes with Police
In Ahmedabad’s Khokhra area, a student’s murder at the Seventh Day School sparked violence and vandalism on August 20. Following this, on August 21, the Youth Congress and NSUI announced a school shutdown protest. Additionally, the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) declared a bandh in Maninagar and nearby areas, calling for closure of schools and businesses.
Bandh Impact and Security Measures
Authorities imposed strict security measures outside the school and within a 500-meter radius. The bandh received a mixed response—while some shops remained open, others stayed shut since morning. The Sindhi Market was completely closed, and nearly 200 schools in Maninagar, Khokhra, and Isanpur joined the bandh.
FIR Against Rioters
Following the vandalism, Khokhra Police filed an FIR against more than 500 people based on a complaint by school administrator Mayurika Patel. The mob allegedly caused damages worth ₹15 lakh by breaking office furniture, classrooms, school buses, LCD screens, and computers. They also attacked school staff, despite police presence during the violence. Cases were registered under charges of rioting, assault, and property damage.
Fresh Tensions on August 21
Around noon on August 21, the situation worsened again outside Seventh Day School, leading to clashes between protesters and police. Reports state that police even entered residential areas to carry out lathi-charge. Sindhi community leaders who reached the school to address the media were also detained.
Police Statement
ACP of I Division, Krunal Desai, stated that all protesters outside the school were detained. He confirmed that a complaint was lodged against 500 people involved in the vandalism, though no arrests have been made so far.
