Speeding Car Claims Three Lives in Surat: Driver Booked for Culpable Homicide
Surat – A tragic accident near Laskana Crossroads in Surat claimed the lives of three people, including a brother-sister duo, after a speeding car collided with two motorcycles and overturned onto the BRTS road. The police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the driver.
High-Speed Collision Leads to Fatalities
The incident occurred in the evening when a car, moving at high speed, first hit a motorcycle ridden by 35-year-old Rajesh Mansukhbhai Gajera and his sister Shobha. The vehicle then rammed into another bike, carrying 48-year-old Maheshbhai Nanajibhai Lathiya. After the collisions, the car veered off course, overturned, and crashed into the divider on the BRTS road.
Rajesh and Maheshbhai were immediately rushed to SMIMER Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. Shobha was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries today.

Devastating Loss for Families
The tragedy has left both families in deep sorrow. Rajesh and Shobha were originally from Savarkundla in Amreli and had been commuting for work when the accident took place. Meanwhile, Maheshbhai, a resident of Bagdana, Bhavnagar, was returning home when he was struck by the car. His untimely demise has left his three children orphaned.

Driver Booked for Culpable Homicide
The accused driver, identified as 34-year-old Arjun Balubhai Virani, an accountant residing in Mamta Park Society, Kapodra, was rescued from the overturned car by bystanders and handed over to the police. Initial questioning revealed that he mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, leading to the catastrophic crash. Given the severity of the incident, Laskana police have registered a case under culpable homicide charges and taken him into custody for further investigation.

Negligence and Traffic Safety Concerns
Surat has been enforcing stricter traffic rules, including stringent signal regulations. However, many drivers tend to speed up when signals are about to turn red. In this case, authorities suspect that the driver was attempting to rush past a changing signal, leading to the fatal collision.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of reckless driving, emphasizing the urgent need for responsible road behavior to prevent such avoidable losses of life.
