The Shiraya family, originally from Amreli district but residing at Rajeshwari Residency in Kamrej, Surat, was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new family member. Gayatri, a 30-year-old woman married for a year, had brought joy to the family by announcing her pregnancy nine months ago. On November 30, she began experiencing labor pains and fever. She was rushed to Kamrej Hospital for treatment. However, the joyous anticipation of a baby turned into tragedy when complications arose during her treatment.
Family Alleges Negligence by Doctors
According to family members, Gayatri was admitted to Kamrej Hospital on November 30, where treatment for labor pain began. However, the family claimed the treatment appeared uninformed, with doctors stating that delivery was still a month away and administering cold injections. Gayatri’s condition worsened, and the doctors expressed their inability to handle the case, advising the family to take her to another hospital. At the new hospital, tests revealed her kidneys and liver had failed.
The Kamrej Hospital doctor reportedly issued a written statement permitting the family to file a legal case and suggested transferring Gayatri to a larger hospital. The family rushed her to SMIMER Hospital, where immediate treatment revealed the unborn baby had already died three days earlier. Gayatri was given intensive care, and on December 2, a stillborn baby boy was delivered. Tragically, Gayatri also passed away during treatment early the next morning.
Mourning and Calls for Action
The Shiraya family, preparing to celebrate the arrival of their only son’s child, was left devastated as both the baby and mother passed away. The tragedy has plunged the family into deep sorrow, with their grief compounded by anger towards Kamrej Hospital. Rahul Shiraya, a family member, shared that Gayatri was not informed about the death of her baby. While undergoing treatment, she expressed her desire to hold her son to her chest just once. The family told her the baby was in an incubator and would be handed over as advised by the doctor. Unfortunately, Gayatri’s last wish remained unfulfilled as she passed away early the next morning.
The family’s accusations of negligence against Kamrej Hospital doctors prompted attempts to contact the hospital. However, the hospital staff stated that the doctors were unavailable for comment.
