Toyota’s First Electric Car Urban Cruiser EV to Launch in India by Late 2025, 550km Range

Toyota’s upcoming electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser EV, will offer a range of 550 km on a full charge. The company unveiled the production version of this electric SUV for the global market on December 12, while its concept version was introduced last year.

Launch Scheduled for 2025 in the UK and India

Toyota plans to launch this electric SUV in the United Kingdom during the third quarter of 2025. It is expected to arrive in India by the end of 2025 with an estimated ex-showroom price of ₹23 lakh. The SUV will compete with the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.

Built on Heartect-E Platform

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is built on the Heartect-E platform, developed in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki. This new car is a rebadged version of the EVX, whose production model was unveiled at the EICMA-2024 Motor Show in Milan as the e-Vitara for the global market.

Dimensions and Changes from Concept to Production Model

The production model of the Urban Cruiser EV features some changes from its concept version. Its length has been reduced by 15mm, width by 20mm, but its height has been increased by 20mm. The wheelbase measures 2,700mm. These dimensions make the Urban Cruiser EV slightly larger than the e-Vitara.

Range of 550 km on Full Charge

In the European market, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is offered with two battery pack options similar to the e-Vitara: a 49kWh and a 61kWh pack. While the company hasn’t disclosed the standard range, it is expected to achieve a range of 550 km on a full charge, which is 150 km more than the e-Vitara. The SUV will also come with 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive options.

Exterior Design Highlights

The overall body structure of the Urban Cruiser EV is similar to the e-Vitara, but the front profile is distinctly different. A wide chrome strip connects both LED headlamps, surrounded by black casing. There are 12 small round LED DRLs on each side, a thick bumper, and vertical air vents on either side.

The rear profile resembles the eVX, featuring a large bumper, roof-integrated spoiler, and connected tail lamps with a reflecting element in the center. Like the DRLs, the tail lamps also have round lighting elements, distinguishing it from the e-Vitara.

Interior and Features

The Urban Cruiser EV’s cabin is largely similar to the e-Vitara, but it features a fully black color theme. Key elements include a layered dashboard, semi-leatherette upholstery, squarish AC vents, brushed aluminum, and gloss black accents.

The cabin also sports a 2-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and gloss black accents around vertically oriented AC vents. The main highlight is the integrated floating screen setup, comprising an infotainment system and a driver display.

Features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.1-inch digital driver display, a fixed glass roof, JBL sound system, powered driver seats, wireless phone charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control.

Safety Features: ADAS and 360-Degree Camera

For safety, the Urban Cruiser EV is equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), including lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking. Additional safety features include a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and multiple airbags.
