In the city, concerns over the quality of food items are on the rise as reports of spoilt products continue to emerge. Due to improper preservation, food items are becoming inedible more frequently. Recently, 3 kilograms of sweets purchased from the popular “Jay Siyaram Pendawala” shop near Sharda Mandir in Paldi were found to be moldy. The sweets, bought on Saturday, were opened today, only to discover that they were covered in mold. Attempts to contact Jay Siyaram Pendawala via phone were unsuccessful.
Moldy Sweets Purchased from Jay Siyaram Pendawala
A woman residing in the Paldi area bought six boxes of sweets (weighing 3 kg) from the well-known “Jay Siyaram Pendawala” shop on the old Sharda Mandir Road near Panchsheel on Saturday. As today is Raksha Bandhan, she opened the boxes around 10 AM, only to find that all the sweets were moldy. The sweets, purchased on Saturday, were already spoiled by Monday. This forced her to buy new sweets for the Raksha Bandhan celebration.
Customer Files Complaint with Municipal Corporation
The customer has lodged a complaint with the Municipal Corporation’s food department regarding the issue. The food department team will investigate the matter at Jay Siyaram Pendawala and take appropriate legal action. It is worth noting that numerous instances of inedible items being sold at sweet and fast food shops across the city have been reported. With the festive season of Raksha Bandhan, there are increasing concerns about the use of substandard ingredients in food items, leading to rapid spoilage. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the food department’s inspection efforts.
