WhatsApp Launches Dedicated iPad App After 15 Years: Group Calls Now Support up to 32 Participants

After 15 years of wait, iPad users can finally access a dedicated WhatsApp application, thanks to Meta (the parent company of WhatsApp and Facebook). The app is now officially available on the Apple App Store, tailored specifically for iPads.

WhatsApp was originally launched on the Apple App Store in 2009, just six months before the iPad’s debut. However, due to Apple’s restrictions on telephony apps, WhatsApp wasn’t supported on iPads for a long time. Meta, which acquired WhatsApp in 2014, has now filled this gap with an iPad-optimized version.

This newly launched app enhances the messaging experience by leveraging the iPad’s large screen. It makes reading and responding to chats smoother and cleaner. Importantly, iPad users no longer need to rely on the web-based version of WhatsApp.

Updated Voice Chat Feature Now Available in All Groups

Originally limited to large groups, this feature is now available in all group chats. To start a voice chat:

  • Hold for a few seconds to begin the voice session.

There’s no ringtone—the chat runs in silent mode, and group members can join or leave at their convenience. As always, the feature is end-to-end encrypted, ensuring complete privacy.
