Tragedy at Dwarka’s Gomti Ghat: Six Pilgrims Drown, One Dead, Five Rescued

Six pilgrims drowned in the Gomti River at Dwarka’s Gomti Ghat. Among them, four young women and one young man were rescued by the fire brigade team and local people. Unfortunately, one young man lost his life in this incident. All the victims are residents of Jamnagar. Questions have arisen regarding the use of life jackets during this incident.

Recent Drowning Incidents in the Area

It is noteworthy that three drowning incidents have occurred in the last month in this area. Three days ago, an elderly person nearly drowned but was rescued by security personnel who risked their lives. Another drowning incident took place on May 21, when three individuals drowned in the Gomti River, resulting in the death of a maternal uncle and nephew from Patan, while one person was saved.

Warnings Ignored Despite Weather Alerts and Dangerous Currents

While the weather department has issued warnings, such serious negligence continues to cause tragedies. Currently, strong currents are observed in the sea near Dwarka, and these currents are stronger in the Gomti River as well. Pilgrims often remain unaware of this danger. Due to the spiritual significance of bathing in the Gomti River, many pilgrims enter the water for ritual baths, which has led to frequent drowning incidents.
