Volkswagen Launches Onam Edition of Taigun and Virtus: Both Cars with 5-Star Safety Rating, Over 40 Safety Features, Starting at ₹13.57 Lakh
Volkswagen India has introduced the Onam Edition of its popular SUV Taigun and sedan Virtus on August 6th in the Indian market. This new special edition is based on the top-line variants of both cars.
Volkswagen has released these special editions to celebrate the Onam festival. The company will sell only 100 units of each model, and they will be available exclusively in Kerala. Both vehicles have achieved a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP and feature over 40 safety features.
Prices Starting at ₹13.57 Lakh
The German automaker has introduced both cars with some cosmetic updates but no mechanical changes. The price of the Volkswagen Taigun Onam Edition with a manual transmission starts at ₹14.08 lakh, while the automatic transmission variant is priced at ₹15.63 lakh.
The Volkswagen Virtus Onam Edition with a manual transmission is priced at ₹13.57 lakh, and the automatic transmission variant costs ₹14.87 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
Onam Edition Features Black Exterior and Interior Theme
Compared to their standard models, the Onam Edition of the Taigun and Virtus features a completely black treatment both inside and out.
In addition, the special edition includes dual-tone horns, front parking sensors, puddle lamps, and a TSI badge on the front fender. Based on the high-spec GT Line variant, the Taigun Onam Edition receives features similar to the GT Line.
It includes 17-inch black alloy wheels, an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and automatic climate control. On the other hand, the Virtus Onam Edition is based on the Highline variant and offers almost all the features of the Taigun Onam Edition, except for the electric sunroof.
Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Onam Edition: Performance
For the Onam Edition of the Taigun and Virtus, the company has provided the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine as in the regular models. This engine produces a maximum power of 113 hp and a peak torque of 178 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual transmission (MT) and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The regular Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus also offer an option for a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI EVO engine, which generates 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual transmission (MT) and a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
5-Star Safety Rating with Over 40 Safety Features
For passenger safety, both the Taigun and Virtus come equipped with 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a reverse camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, a driver alert system, ABS, ESP, ASR, EDL, Auto Hold, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control.
With over 40 safety features, both cars have achieved a 5-star safety rating in crash tests from Global NCAP.
