PM Modi to Address the Nation Tonight at 8 PM: May Speak on Operation Sindoor and Ceasefire Agreement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation tonight at 8 PM following a significant development in the India-Pakistan conflict. A ceasefire agreement was reached on Saturday, reportedly mediated by the United States.

Trump Announces Mediation Success

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the breakthrough, stating, “Following extensive discussions under U.S. mediation last night, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and complete cessation of hostilities.” He congratulated both nations for taking a sensible and peaceful decision.

India Confirms Ceasefire Through Brief Statement

Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a brief 42-second press conference at 6 PM, confirming the ceasefire. He revealed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) had contacted the Indian DGMO at 3:35 PM on Saturday. Both sides agreed to halt all military operations—by land, air, and sea—starting from 5 PM on the same day. Orders have been issued on both sides to ensure implementation, and another round of talks is scheduled for 12 PM on May 12.

Pakistan Also Confirms the Agreement

Pakistan also confirmed the ceasefire agreement. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated, “Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire.” He emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

U.S. Secretary of State Speaks with Both Countries

On Wednesday night, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with both Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He urged both nations to work together to reduce tensions and promote peace in South Asia.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Rubio expressed condolences to Jaishankar for the lives lost in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and reiterated America’s support for India in the fight against terrorism. However, she also advised India to exercise caution in blaming Pakistan and seeking retaliation.

Call for Cooperation in Terror Attack Investigation

Bruce further mentioned that during the call with PM Sharif, Rubio urged Pakistan to condemn the April 22 attack in Kashmir and to fully cooperate in the investigation. He requested Pakistani authorities to provide complete support in uncovering the truth behind the incident.

Expectations from PM Modi’s Address

PM Modi’s address tonight is expected to touch upon the ceasefire, recent developments in Operation Sindoor, and India’s stance moving forward.
