SVP Achieves Another Milestone in 2024: 17 Flights Diverted to Ahmedabad Airport
Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has made history. For the first time since its construction, 17 flights were diverted to land at the Ahmedabad airport. This historic event occurred last Sunday due to extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai, which disrupted flight operations. Consequently, several flights had to be diverted to airports around Mumbai. Among these, 16 flights destined for Mumbai were redirected to Ahmedabad, which is known as a modern airport in Western India. Additionally, one flight from another city was also diverted to Ahmedabad, making a total of 17 flights that landed there.
Highest Air Traffic in 2023 on November 19-20
On regular days, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad handles 250 to 270 flights daily. Previously, on May 4, 2024, the airport saw a movement of 307 flights. Again, on July 21, 2024, the airport recorded 307 flight movements. On this day, there was a 14% increase in flights compared to regular days, which typically see about 270 flights. Notably, in 2024, the airport has handled 307 flight movements so far. During the World Cup final match held in Ahmedabad in November 2023, the airport experienced the highest air traffic, with 359 flights on November 19 and 328 flights on November 20. These two days marked the highest air traffic movement at Ahmedabad airport in 2023.
Continuous Efforts to Modernize the Airport
It is noteworthy that Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is being modernized day by day. Its infrastructure is being continuously upgraded, allowing it to easily handle the diversion of 17 flights from other sectors in a single day. Importantly, new apron areas have been prepared at the Ahmedabad airport. Realigning the apron area has helped increase aircraft movement. Additionally, Ahmedabad airport has now been developed as an integrated terminal, with the international terminal (T-2) having five new aircraft parking stands. This has enabled the full utilization of Ahmedabad airport’s efficiency.
