Insect-Infested Food Found in Girls’ Hostel: Outrage Over Unhygienic Meals

Insects and Hair Found in Hostel Food, Vidyanagar Girls Protest

Ranak Girls Hostel, operated by Charutar Vidya Mandal (CVM) in Vidyanagar, houses many female students from various towns and cities who come to study at Vidyanagar colleges. Despite charging hefty fees for providing food, accommodation, and other facilities, the hostel has been accused of serving food with insects and hair. Female students have reported finding insects and hair in their meals, such as dal, rice, and vegetables, for several days. They have even made videos of these occurrences. Despite numerous complaints, the issue persisted, leading the students to gather outside the hostel and protest today.

Students Forced to Buy Food from Outside Despite Paying Fees

For the past several days, insects and hair have been found in the food served at the hostel. As a result, even though the students pay high fees, they are forced to spend extra money to buy food from outside.

Complaints of Unhygienic Food at Hostel Ignored, Students Face Retaliation: Mahi

Mahi, a student residing in the hostel, reports that the food preparation lacks proper hygiene. Meals are not covered, and insects are found in the food daily. When they complain, their concerns are not addressed, and no action is taken. The rector retaliates by using foul language and threatening to expel them. The hostel also faces frequent electricity and water outages. Many students have developed health issues, but there is no accountability. When the students initially approached the rector, they were told to find accommodation elsewhere if they were unhappy. After escalating the matter to the college and then the university, they still did not receive a satisfactory response. Mahi questions who will take responsibility for their health, as their parents have entrusted their care to the hostel management.

Refund Requests Denied: Student

Another student shares that when they complain, the management accuses them of making false claims to go out. Parents prefer the hostel due to its early curfew, with students required to be inside by 7 PM. The issue is not about going out; it’s about the hygiene and safety of the food. Despite compromising on taste, finding insects and hair in their meals is unacceptable. Requests for refunds are denied, with the management refusing to return even a portion of the fees, leaving students unable to switch hostels.

Management Promises Improvements

CVM University administrators have acknowledged the issue, stating that it has come to their attention and they will investigate. A retired female principal has been appointed to oversee the hostel, and they assure that all concerns will be addressed moving forward.
