Tragic Collapse of Gambhira Bridge Prompts Chief Minister to Order Immediate Inquiry
In a devastating incident early this morning, the Mujpur-Gambhira bridge built over the Mahi River collapsed, resulting in the death of at least nine people. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered an immediate investigation into the collapse.
Despite prior warnings by alert citizens about the deteriorating condition of the bridge, the authorities failed to take timely action. It is only after this tragic incident and the loss of innocent lives that the administration has been jolted into action. A preliminary inquiry into the technical reasons and causes of the bridge collapse has now been initiated.
Chief Minister Orders Probe Into Cause of Collapse
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took to social media to express his grief and announced an official probe. He stated,
“It is deeply saddening that one span out of the 23 of the Gambhira bridge, which connects Anand and Vadodara, has collapsed. I pray for the peace of the departed souls. I have also instructed the Vadodara Collector to prioritize arrangements for the treatment of the injured.”
Rescue Operations Underway with Multiple Agencies Involved
Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing at the site of the collapse. Teams from the local municipality, Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s fire brigade, and NDRF are actively involved in the operations using boats and divers.
Expert Team Deployed to Investigate Technical Faults
In response to the incident, the Roads and Buildings Department has been instructed to conduct a swift investigation. A team consisting of the Chief Engineer – Design, Chief Engineer – South Gujarat, and two private bridge construction experts have been dispatched to the site. They have been tasked with conducting a primary inquiry into the structural and technical reasons for the collapse and are expected to submit a detailed report soon.
