Violent Clash Erupts Between Committee and Members at Orient Club in Ellisbridge

On Tuesday night, a physical altercation broke out at the Orient Club, located in the Ellisbridge area of Ahmedabad, over the suspension of a club member. The fight involved members and committee officials, leading to injuries to four to five individuals. The Ellisbridge Police have registered cross complaints from both sides and initiated an investigation.

Member and Family Allegedly Attacked by Committee Members

Bhadreshbhai Shah, a resident of Rupjyoti Society in Vejalpur, holds a membership at the Orient Club. He visited the club on Tuesday night with his family when a committee member, Divyang Shah, allegedly threw a piece of RCC (reinforced concrete) at Bhadreshbhai’s son and slammed a car door. Following this, Divyang Shah reportedly got into a scuffle with other individuals present at the scene.

Later, club associates of Rajendra Trivedi and Raju Narang allegedly assaulted Bhadreshbhai’s family. The incident escalated quickly, prompting police intervention.

Committee Member Files Counter-Complaint

In his cross-complaint, Divyang Shah stated that Bhadreshbhai Shah had repeatedly violated the club’s rules and had been served a notice by the committee. However, Shah allegedly refused to acknowledge or accept the notice. Consequently, the committee decided to restrict his entry to the club. Despite this, Bhadreshbhai allegedly created a hostile environment by involving the police.

On Tuesday, he reportedly questioned the cancellation of his membership and, according to the complaint, attacked Divyang Shah with the help of others.

Allegations of Illegal Activities Within the Club

Speaking to the media, Bhadreshbhai Shah’s daughter, Heta Shah, alleged that several illegal activities were being carried out at the Orient Club without the knowledge of regular members. She claimed that outsiders were invited for gambling and betting activities within the premises.

She further alleged that some dominant members and committee officials behaved arbitrarily, ignoring the concerns and representations made by club members. Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken against these irregularities, according to her statement.
