Indian Women’s Junior Asia Cup Hockey Team Clinches Historic Victory | 2023

The Indian women’s junior hockey team created history by defeating South Korea four times in the finals of the Junior Women’s Asia Cup. In an exciting final match held on Sunday, the Indian team defeated South Korea 2-1, becoming the first-time champions of the Asia Cup.

Furthermore, with this victory in the semifinals, the Indian team also qualified for the Junior World Cup. The Junior World Cup will be held in Chile from November 29th to December 10th this year.

In the first half, both teams scored one goal each. In the final match of this tournament held in Kakamigahara City, Japan, India and South Korea were tied 1-1 in the first half. Annu (22′) and Nilam (41′) scored goals for India, while Park Seo scored the only goal for Korea.

The Indian team remained at the top of the points table in the league matches. In the league, out of the four matches played, India won three matches and one match ended in a draw. In their first match of the league, the Indian team defeated Uzbekistan by 22-0.

In the second match, the Indian team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Malaysia. In the third match, they had a draw against Korea. In the final league match, they faced a defeat of 11-0 against Chinese Taipei.

A total of 10 teams participated in this tournament. Along with the Indian team, four other teams were directly invited to the Under-21 hockey tournament based on their world rankings. These teams included China, Korea, Japan, and Malaysia.

The remaining five teams, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia, qualified for the Women’s Junior Cup tournament, which was held in Kazakhstan in October of the same year.
