Contract Employee in Maharashtra Commits ₹21 Crore Fraud
A contract employee in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, has been accused of embezzling ₹21 crore. With the stolen funds, he purchased a luxury flat on Airport Road and gifted it to his girlfriend. Additionally, he bought a BMW car and a high-end bike for himself.
23-Year-Old Computer Operator with ₹13K Salary Behind the Fraud
The accused, Harshal Kumar Kshirsagar, a 23-year-old computer operator at the Sambhajinagar Sports Complex, earned a monthly salary of just ₹13,000. Between July 1 and December 7 this year, he transferred ₹21.59 crore from 13 departmental accounts using internet banking. Harshal carried out the scam in collaboration with a colleague, Yashoda Shetty, and her husband, BK Jeevan.
₹59 Crore Misappropriation Discovered in Bank Account
The Maharashtra government had allocated funds to build a sports complex in Sambhajinagar, which were deposited in an account at Indian Bank. Transactions were authorized via cheques signed by the Deputy Sports Director.
The accused trio forged documents to activate internet banking and transferred the funds to their personal accounts. The Deputy Director uncovered the fraud after six months. Harshal is currently absconding, while Yashoda and her husband have been arrested.
Lavish Purchases Exposed Post-Investigation
The investigation revealed Harshal had purchased a ₹1.20 crore BMW car, a ₹1.30 crore SUV, and a ₹32 lakh BMW bike. He also bought a 4BHK flat for his girlfriend in an apartment opposite the airport. Additionally, the accused ordered diamond-studded glasses from a renowned city jeweler. Yashoda’s husband also purchased a ₹35 lakh SUV.
