Masood Azhar, Mastermind of Pulwama and Parliament Attacks, Treated for Heart Attack
India’s most wanted terrorist and the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammad, Maulana Masood Azhar, has suffered a heart attack. He was hiding in the Khost province of Afghanistan, where the attack occurred. According to media reports, after the attack, Masood Azhar was immediately taken from Afghanistan to Pakistan and was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Karachi.
Reports on Masood Azhar’s Heart Attack
Following the heart attack, cardiologists from Islamabad are reportedly traveling to Karachi. Masood Azhar was sent from the Gorbaz area of Khost province to Pakistan. He may soon be admitted to a major hospital in Rawalpindi. Pakistan’s actions clearly indicate that it is harboring the terrorist Masood Azhar.
Who is Terrorist Masood Azhar?
Born in 1968, terrorist Masood Azhar has carried out many anti-India activities while based in Pakistan. His terrorist organization, Jaish-e-Mohammad, has carried out attacks not only in India but also in the UK, the US, Canada, and Australia. Pakistan had long denied Masood Azhar’s presence in their country, but recently, they admitted that he is there and his health is deteriorating.
Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Terrorist Acts
Jaish-e-Mohammad is responsible for several major terrorist attacks, including the 2001 Indian Parliament attack in collaboration with Lashkar-e-Taiba. Additionally, in February 2002, Jaish-e-Mohammad beheaded American journalist Daniel Pearl. In May 2009, four men claiming to be members of Jaish plotted to bomb a Jewish temple in New York and launch missiles at US military aircraft. The group was also linked to the 2016 Pathankot attack.
Masood Azhar: The Mastermind Behind Several Attacks
Besides the Parliament attack, Azhar is responsible for masterminding the 2016 Pathankot attack and several other terrorist attacks in India. According to Delhi Police’s charge sheet in the Pathankot case, Masood Azhar used Jaish-e-Mohammad’s cadre to launch attacks on India. He was also responsible for attacks in Ayodhya in 2005, and on CRPF soldiers in Pulwama in 2019.
Masood Azhar is also blamed for the 2016 Uri attack and the assault on the Indian Consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan. He was closely associated with al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and Taliban founder Mullah Omar.
