Indore Achieves 7th Consecutive Cleanest City Award in India; Surat Cleanest City of India, Maharashtra Tops In State List, Varanasi Leads Clean Cities Along the Ganges

Surat, the cleanest city in the country, has been honored with the Cleanliness Survey 2023 award for being the cleanest city in India. This is the seventh consecutive time that Surat has received this award. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh has been recognized as the second cleanest state in the country. The President, Dr. Draupadi Murmu, presented the award to CM Dr. Mohan Yadav at the India Mandapam Convention Center in New Delhi.

Maharashtra’s Saswad Leads Cities with Population Less Than a Million

Saswad in Maharashtra secured the top position among cities with a population of less than a million, followed by Patan in Chhattisgarh at the second position, and Lonavala in Maharashtra at the third position. In the category of clean states in the country, Maharashtra secured the first position, Madhya Pradesh the second, and Chhattisgarh the third. At the previous ranking, Madhya Pradesh held the first position.

Cleanest Cities Along the Ganges

Varanasi and Prayagraj secured the first and second positions, respectively, among the cleanest cities along the Ganges. The awards were presented to these cities by President Draupadi Murmu and Union Minister of Urban Development Hardeep Puri during an event at the India Mandapam Convention Center in Delhi. A total of 9,500 marks were scored to achieve this recognition.

MP’s Mhow Awarded Cleanest Cantonment Board

Mhow in Madhya Pradesh has been recognized as the cleanest cantonment board, receiving an award from the Director-General of the Cantonment Board, G.S. Rajeshwar. The award ceremony was organized at the India Mandapam Convention Center in Delhi.

Bhopal – Fifth Cleanest City

Bhopal has become the fifth cleanest city in the country. It held the sixth position last year.Indore receives a Seven-Star Rating in the Garbage-Free City System.

Madhya Pradesh – Second Cleanest State in India

At present, Madhya Pradesh has won the award for being India’s second cleanest state. CM Mohan Yadav was honored with this award. Chhattisgarh is the Third Cleanest State. Maharashtra received the first award in the state category for cleanliness. President Draupadi Murmu launched the portal created for the Swachhata Sarvekshan.

In 2022, Madhya Pradesh was the Cleanest State in the country.

In 2022, Madhya Pradesh surpassed Rajasthan and Maharashtra to become the cleanest state in the country. Among the states with more than 100 cities participating, Madhya Pradesh ranked number one, and Indore led the way in cleanliness. Bhopal also secured a position between seventh and sixth in the ranking. In 2017 and 2018, Bhopal was the second cleanest city in the country.

In 2016, there were only 73 cities in the race. Even then, Indore was at number one. Now, in this race, 4355 cities were involved. Since 2017, Indore has consistently held the number one position in the country. In the Swachhata Sarvekshan 2020, Madhya Pradesh received a total of 27 awards, including 18 cities for star rating and 9 cities for the Swachh Sarvekshan.

World’s Largest Urban Cleanliness Survey

The Indian Swachhata Sarvekshan is the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey. The initiative to promote cleanliness in cities began in 2016. Under the eighth season of the Swachhata Sarvekshan, more than 4500 cities were listed in the survey in 2023. The theme for this survey was “West to Wealth.”

In these cities, from July 1st, 3000 employees were assigned the task of conducting the cleanliness evaluation. The evaluation was carried out based on 46 parameters. The goal was to gather feedback from approximately 100 million citizens.
