Ahmedabad Airport Introduces Self-Baggage Drop Machines for Efficient Check-In

In a bid to enhance passenger convenience and reduce waiting times during the baggage drop-off process, Ahmedabad’s Domestic Terminal T-1 has unveiled the Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) facility. This innovative addition is set to significantly improve the check-in experience for travelers by accommodating up to three passengers per minute.

Self-Baggage Drop Machines

Self-Check-in Kiosk:

To avail themselves of the Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) service, passengers are required to first utilize the self-check-in kiosk. At the self-check-in kiosk, passengers are prompted to generate their boarding pass and baggage tag. Following the successful generation of these essential documents, passengers can proceed to the SBD facility, where their boarding pass will be subject to a quick but precise scanning process.

During this scanning procedure, airport security personnel will ensure that the checked-in baggage does not contain any objectionable items. In the absence of any such items, the checked baggage is promptly transferred to the designated sorting area. Simultaneously, a passenger’s baggage receipt is generated, serving as a verification of the baggage acceptance process.

Dedicated Facility for IndiGo Airlines Passengers:

The Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) facility is presently accessible exclusively to IndiGo Airlines passengers. Located within the departure check-in hall of Domestic Terminal T-1, this service is thoughtfully designed to cater specifically to the needs of IndiGo Airlines travelers. It is worth noting that plans are in motion to extend this service to other airlines in the near future, indicating a commitment to offering this innovative and efficient feature to a broader range of passengers. The intention is to provide a consistent and enhanced travel experience for all passengers, regardless of their airline of choice.

To utilize the Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) facility, passengers are required to follow a structured procedure:

  1. Initiate the Process at the Self-Check-In Kiosk:
    • Begin by accessing the self-check-in kiosk.
    • Generate your boarding pass and baggage tags using the on-screen interface.
    • Enter the requisite details as prompted by the kiosk.
  2. Proceed to the SBD Counter:
    • After successfully generating your boarding pass and attaching the baggage tag to your luggage, make your way to the Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) counter.
  3. Boarding Pass Scanning:
    • Present your boarding pass at the designated scanner located at the SBD counter.
    • The scanner will verify your boarding pass, ensuring that all necessary details are in order.
  4. Secure Baggage Tag Attachment:
    • Attach the baggage tag securely to your luggage. Ensure that it is prominently visible and displays all the required information as indicated on the tag.
    • For fragile items, it is advisable to place them within the provided baggage tub to safeguard against any potential damage. The SBD facility has already assessed the weight of the tub, alleviating concerns about exceeding the permissible weight limits.
  5. Security Declaration:
    • As a vital security measure, passengers are required to declare that their baggage is free of any prohibited or dangerous items. This declaration is essential to uphold the safety and well-being of all travelers.
  6. Loading Luggage:
    • Follow the provided instructions and guidelines to load your luggage onto the designated conveyor belt within the SBD facility.
  7. Receipt Generation:
    • After successfully completing the aforementioned steps, a receipt will be generated by the SBD machine.
    • Ensure that you collect this receipt, as it serves as confirmation of the successful acceptance of your luggage through the SBD facility.

The Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) system stands as a state-of-the-art technological innovation, dedicated to optimizing time efficiency and delivering a seamless and superior passenger experience.
