Jay Shah May Resign from ACC Chief Post, ICC Presidency Election; ACC Meeting in Indonesia Today

Jay Shah, currently serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), may resign from his position as the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He is contesting elections for the position of ICC president.

ACC Annual General Meeting Underway

The annual general meeting of the ACC has begun today in Bali, Indonesia. This two-day meeting will continue until January 31. The meeting will also decide on the broadcasting rights of the ACC.

Elections for ICC President in November

Elections for the position of ICC president are scheduled for November. Elections for the ACC chief are held once every two years, and Jay Shah has completed one year in his position. It is speculated that he might resign before the upcoming elections to contest for the ICC president position.

ACC Media Rights Up for Grabs

All member boards of Asian Cricket will participate in the annual meeting, including discussions on ACC media rights. This includes broadcasting major tournaments like the Asia Cup, featuring matches from the Under-23, Under-19, and Women’s Asia Cup.

Decision on Asia Cup Venue Soon

The upcoming venue for the Asia Cup will also be decided during this meeting. The Asia Cup 2025 will be held in T20 format, with the UAE and Oman vying to host the tournament. The 2023 Asia Cup was hosted by Pakistan, won by India.

Challenges for UAE and Oman in Hosting Asia Cup

Another issue in hosting the Asia Cup is that while all Asian board members have hosting rights, both UAE and Oman have supporting nations. Previously, the tournament was held in the UAE between 2018 and 2022, when India and Sri Lanka had hosting rights. In this scenario, hosting rights will remain with full member boards only.
