Construction Update: Progress on 12 Flyovers and Underpasses, 10% to 68% Completion, Bringing Relief to Over 15 Lakh Daily Commuters
The expansion of Ahmedabad city, coupled with a rising population and increasing vehicular traffic, has necessitated alleviating traffic congestion. Currently, work on 12 bridges, including overpasses and underpasses, has reached completion rates ranging from 10% to an impressive 68%. All these projects are scheduled to be completed by 2026, providing relief to an estimated 15 lakh commuters.
Among these, Chandlodiya Railway Bridge, Makarba Overbridge, and Chainpur Underpass are set to be completed by the end of this year, while the completion of work on 7 bridges is expected in 2025. These projects collectively account for an expenditure of approximately 892 crores. Addressing traffic woes, plans include a flyover at Panchvati Junction and the elevation of Chimanbhai Bridge, both slated to commence in 2024.
Additionally, the city’s longest bridge is under construction in Naroda, spanning Naroda Junction, Devi Junction, and Galaxy Junction. Expected to commence operation in July 2023 and fully operational by 2026, this bridge will provide relief to around 2 lakh commuters, with an estimated cost of 235 crores. Another noteworthy project, the Pallav Bridge, constructed at a cost of 104 crores near Pragatinagar, has seen 68% completion, promising significant relief from traffic congestion upon its completion.

Upcoming Bridges Near Pragatinagar: Enhancing Connectivity
The construction of the Pallav Bridge near Pragatinagar, integrating Pragatinagar and Pallav Junction, will soon extend to include Devi and Galaxy Junctions beyond Naroda Flyover. Additionally, Vadaj Junction, with its overbridge under construction at Vadaj, will incorporate Satadhara and T Junctions.
The most extensive and costly bridge in Ahmedabad will be built in Naroda, with completion scheduled by July 2026. Work orders have been issued for the old Ellisbridge, where vehicular traffic will no longer be allowed.
