Anita Goyal, Jet Airways Founder’s Wife, Succumbs to Long Battle with Cancer: Passes Away in Mumbai at 3 AM

Anita Goyal, the wife of Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, has passed away in Mumbai. She had been battling cancer for a long time. During the treatment, she took her last breath in a Mumbai hospital early Thursday morning. According to media reports, Anita Goyal’s last rites will be performed in Mumbai today.

Narendra Goyal Granted Bail in Money Laundering Case

On May 6, the Bombay High Court granted bail to Naresh Goyal for two months on medical and humanitarian grounds in a money laundering case. After Anita Goyal’s demise, Naresh Goyal is left with his wife and two children, Namrata and Nivaan Goyal. Naresh Goyal himself is also suffering from cancer.

Anita Goyal Was Associated with Jet Airways

Anita Goyal was associated with Jet Airways and held the position of Executive Vice President. In 2015, she became the Non-Executive Vice President, but remained on the Board of Directors.

Anita Goyal Also Accused in Money Laundering Case

In November 2023, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Naresh Goyal‘s wife Anita in a money laundering case. However, considering her age and health, the court granted her immediate bail.

Narendra Goyal Struggles in Court

This year on January 6, amid the hearing of his bail application, Goyal broke down in the PLMA special court in Mumbai. Later, he told the court, “I have lost hope in life. My health has deteriorated a lot. It’s better to die in jail. I miss my wife a lot.”

Jet Airways Ceased Operations in April 2019

Jet Airways, once India’s largest private airline and the largest airline in South Asia, ceased operations on April 17, 2019, due to financial woes, particularly attributed to the lenders led by the State Bank of India.

Jet Airways Owed Massive Debts

At the time, Jet Airways had an outstanding loan of ₹5,386.2 crore from the consortium of banks. It had utilized ₹848.86 crore of its credit limit and loans. Three years later, in 2021, the lenders alleged that Jet Airways had transferred ₹1,410.41 crore to its associated companies as revealed in the forensic audit, diverting money from the company’s accounts for personal gains.

Allegations Against the Goyal Family

The Goyal family was accused of diverting all their personal expenses, such as staff salaries, phone bills, and vehicle expenses, from Jet Airways’ accounts.
