Bihar Leader Sushil Modi Diagnosed with Cancer: Fighting Cancer for 6 Months, Informs PM, Unable to Campaign

Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Modi, has cancer. He shared this information on social media on Wednesday. He wrote, “I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now, the time has come to inform people. I won’t be able to do much in the Lok Sabha elections. I have already informed the PM. I am always grateful to the country, Bihar, and the party.”

Sushil Modi is suffering from throat cancer. Three months ago, he underwent tests after complaining of discomfort in the throat, and he was diagnosed with cancer. Currently, he is undergoing check-ups at AIIMS in Delhi. According to sources, Sushil Modi may reach Patna by this evening.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed his sadness upon learning about Sushil Modi’s condition. He said he would convey his best wishes to him. Ravi Shankar Prasad also mentioned that Sushil Modi’s absence would be felt during the election campaign.

The political journey of Sushil Modi began in 1971, alongside Nitish Kumar, both of whom are key figures in Bihar politics. Associated with the RSS, Sushil Kumar Modi started his involvement in student politics in 1971. In 1990, he contested elections from the Patna Central Assembly seat and entered the Legislative Assembly.

In 2004, they won the Bhagalpur Lok Sabha seat. In 2005, Sushil Modi resigned from the parliamentary post and was elected to the Legislative Council, eventually becoming the Deputy Chief Minister. It was from this point that his relationship with Nitish Kumar began.

Nitish Kumar’s government saw Sushil Modi serving as the Deputy Chief Minister. Sushil Modi held the position of Deputy CM in Bihar from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2020. In the 2005 Bihar elections, the NDA came to power, and Modi was elected as a leader of the Bihar BJP legislative party.

Later, he resigned from the Lok Sabha and took up the role of Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. He was also entrusted with various other portfolios, including finance. Following the NDA’s victory in the 2010 Bihar elections, he continued as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. While he didn’t contest the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections in 2005 and 2010, he played a crucial role in BJP’s campaigning efforts.
