GST Raids at 46 Locations Uncover Rs 4 Crore Tax Evasion, Including 14 in Vadodara
Businesses including ready-to-eat food, mobile accessories, and cosmetics were inspected.GST teams simultaneously conducted searches in Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Morbi, Anand, and Junagadh.
In Ahmedabad, 46 locations, including 14 GST locations, were searched as part of the SAGAMT operation to unearth tax evasion. These locations were not registered with GST numbers but were involved in providing goods and services. Approximately 4 crore INR in tax evasion has been uncovered during the primary estimates from the 46 locations.
The GST department has taken swift action based on their study of tax profiling. Some businesses, after registering for GST, used the composition scheme to evade taxes. Some traders avoided paying taxes by using fake invoices.
In the FMCG sector, where tax evasion is rampant, the GST department has searched mobile accessories, ready-to-eat food, cosmetics, plastic surgery, and hair transplant service providers in Ahmedabad. Only 5% tax was paid in just 18% of the locations in the ready-to-eat food segment.
In Gujarat, GST evasion was detected in 12 places in Surat, 8 places in Rajkot, and 6 places in Vadodara.
The GST department has found that many traders do direct sales of goods and services and their turnover is also quite significant. Surprisingly, these businesses hadn’t obtained a GST number.
