MP Kalaben Delkar Joins BJP After Receiving Ticket: Controversy Emerges

Shiv Sena’s Sitting MP Kalabben Delkar Joins BJP Before Dadra and Nagar Haveli Meeting

Kalabben Delkar, the sitting MP for Dadra and Nagar Haveli, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) even before the announcement of the ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. Just three days after the BJP’s ticket announcement, Kalabben Delkar today joined the BJP along with his supporters.

Following the demise of her husband Mohan Delkar, Kalabben Delkar contested and won the elections for the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha constituency. She contested and won the election on behalf of Shiv Sena in the by-elections held during the meeting of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha constituency. However, during this meeting, the BJP nominated Kalabben Delkar as the candidate. Today, Kalabben, along with her son and supporters, joined the BJP.

In 2021, Kalabben was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the by-elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mohan Delkar was elected as the opposition MP for the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency. However, if Mohan Delkar’s term had been completed before his demise, by-elections would have been held during this meeting of the Union Territory. In the by-elections held in 2021, Kalabben, Mohan Delkar’s wife, contested the election from the Shiv Sena party and emerged victorious.

Before joining the party, Kalaben Delkar was already announced as a candidate by the BJP three days ago when the second list of candidates was declared, in which she was announced as a candidate from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency.

Kalaben Delkar, the sitting MP for the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. However, the BJP had announced its own candidate from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency during the second list of candidates announced three days ago.

In 2021’s by-elections, the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency Lok Sabha seat was won by Shiv Sena. After the Lok Sabha seat, Shiv Sena’s candidates also won in the local self-government institutions. Now, Kalaben Delkar has joined the BJP along with her supporters today, after deserting Shiv Sena.

Kalaben Delkar’s family influence in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency has been significant, with Mohan Delkar being elected as the Member of Parliament seven times and Kalaben herself once. Mohan Delkar was elected as an MP from this constituency, representing various parties including BJP, Congress, and as an independent candidate. After his demise, Kalaben Delkar became the MP from this constituency in the by-elections held here.

Regarding her entry into the BJP, Kalaben Delkar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for showing confidence in her and stated, “I will reciprocate the trust placed in me.” She also emphasized her commitment to building trust among the people of the region and connecting the indigenous tribal society with the BJP. She pledged to work proactively with the BJP in the coming days to address the issues faced by the region.
