Surat Tragedy: Parents Forced to Suicide by Son-Daughter-in-Law Over Debt

The tragic incident of the elderly couple’s suicide in Surat has shocked the community. Chunibhai Bhagwan Gedia and his wife Muktaben’s decision to end their lives is deeply saddening, especially considering the circumstances surrounding their son’s behavior. It’s heart-wrenching to hear that they felt compelled to take such drastic measures due to their son’s cruelty and abandonment.

The fact that Chunibhai and Muktaben chose to end their lives together highlights the profound bond they shared, even in their final moments. It’s a stark reminder of the importance of family support and communication, especially in times of distress.

The police investigation into the matter is crucial to uncovering the full extent of the circumstances leading to this tragic event. It’s essential to understand the factors that contributed to their decision and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

In the meantime, it’s essential for communities to come together to support each other, especially those who may be struggling with similar challenges. Offering empathy, compassion, and assistance to those in need can make a significant difference in preventing such devastating outcomes.

Investigation Initiated Based on Suicide Note

The team from Sarthana Police reached the site as the investigation into the matter began. The entire case saw the police taking the deceased couple’s bodies to the Smimer Hospital for post-mortem examination. Before committing the act, both Chunibhai Bhagwan Gedia, aged 66, and his 64-year-old wife, Muktaben, had written a suicide note. Sarthana Police are now proceeding with the legal formalities based on the suicide note. Chunibhai had written a suicide note of 5-7 pages.

₹38 Lakh Allegedly Extorted

ACP Viral Patel stated that the couple had committed suicide by hanging themselves at their residence. The primary reason behind the suicide appears to be the son’s separation from his parents and the daughter-in-law’s alleged mistreatment. Not long ago, the son, Piyush, was allegedly extorted of ₹38 lakh by his parents, which they used to pay off debts. Subsequently, Piyush was sent to Canada to pursue business, after which he reportedly distanced himself from his parents. However, the rift extended beyond just financial matters, as the relationship with the parents was also strained.

Father Unreachable

Furthermore, it was revealed that when Piyush came to Surat once, he did not even come to meet his father. Currently, he expressed gratitude to his son and daughter-in-law who stayed with him. After the incident, he refrained from spending on his funeral arrangements. Alongside this, there was also mention of the daughter-in-law’s alleged mistreatment, which he also seemed to be affected by. The parents, immersed in the separation from their estranged son, took the extreme step of hanging themselves with the ceiling fan of their own house. Further investigation is underway regarding this matter.
