Grandfather Narayan Murthy Makes Grandson Partner: Gifts 15 Lakh Shares, Valued at ₹240 Crore

Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has gifted shares worth ₹240 crore to his grandson, Ekagra Rohan Murthy, over a period of four months. Murthy has given his grandson 15 lakh shares in the company, which constitutes a 0.04% stake.

After the share transfer, Narayana Murthy’s shareholding in Infosys has reduced from 0.40% to 0.36%. The company has disclosed this information in its exchange filing.

About four months ago, on November 10, Narayana Murthy’s son Rohan Murthy and daughter-in-law Aparna Krishnan became parents. Subsequently, Narayana Murthy, inspired by Sanskrit, named his grandson Ekagra.

Besides Ekagra, Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murthy also have daughter’s daughter, named Krishna Sunak and Anushka Sunak. Both daughters-in-law are the daughters of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murthy.

Earlier this year, in January, Narayana Murthy said that the decision to separate the family from the company was wrong. He said, “Corporate governance means not involving the family in it.”

Because most of the business in those days belonged to the family, in which the children of the family used to run the company. Among them, there was a serious violation of corporate rules.

My son will never join Infosys

When asked, Murthy’s son Rohan Murthy came to know that he is a scholar at Harvard. If they ask you to join Infosys tomorrow, what will you do? In response to this, Murthy said that Rohan will never say such a thing. Rohan Murthy is 40 years old. He has a PhD from Harvard University. He is also the owner of a software firm. His company works on data processing.

Infosys was founded in 1981

Narayana Murthy founded Infosys, India’s second largest tech company, in 1981. Since then, until 2002, they were the CEO of the company. After that, they were the chairman of the board from 2002 to 2006.

In August 2011, Murthy retired as chairman of the company. Although, again in 2013, he became the executive chairman of the company. During this time, his son Rohan Murthy worked as his executive assistant.
