Justice Rohit Deo Resigns From His Post in Bombay High Court

Justice Rohit B deo of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has resigned from his post. On Friday, the judge sitting in the Nagpur bench of the High Court announced his resignation in the ongoing court. Referring to his resignation, the judge also apologized to the court. He said, ‘I have no hard feelings towards anyone and I am sorry if anyone has been hurt. While announcing his decision to resign, he also said that he cannot act against his self-respect.

Justice Rohit B deo of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court resigned from the ongoing court on Friday. He apologized to the lawyers and called them his family. While apologizing to every lawyer present in the court, Justice deo said ‘I reprimanded you because I want you to do a good job… you guys work hard.

GN acquitted Saibaba in alleged Maoist links case

Justice Rohit B deo, sitting in the Nagpur bench of the high court, was part of the bench that acquitted former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba and five others in the alleged Maoist links case and also ordered their immediate release.However, the Supreme Court stayed the decision after the Maharashtra government challenged it. On April 19, 2023, the Supreme Court set aside the judgment and directed the matter to be referred to another bench for a fresh hearing. Recently, a bench headed by Justice deo stayed a government resolution empowering the Maharashtra government to quash punitive proceedings initiated against contractors working on the Samriddhi Highway project.

Justice Rohit B deo hails from Nagpur and was appointed as Additional Judge of Bombay High Court on 5 June 2017. After serving for two years, he was retained as a judge. After coming to the court on Friday, he told the lawyers present that he has resigned from the post.On this occasion, he emotionally told the lawyers that we are all one family and our aim is always to deoelop the family. He also requested everyone to continue the good work. They left saying they were canceling the day’s work.

Who is Justice Rohit B Deo?

Prior to becoming a High Court Judge, deo served successfully as State Advocate General and Additional Solicitor General of the Central Government. In 1986, he received his LLD degree from Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University College of Law. After this, he worked for several years under the guidance of senior advocate Subodh Dharmadhikari.He started practicing law in 1990. In his 30 years of legal practice, he has handled a wide variety of cases. Justice deo was promoted to the High Court bench in 2017. He was scheduled to retire as a High Court judge on 4 December 2025.
