Massive Fire Engulfs Seven-Story Building in Dhaka: 44 People death, 22 Critical
On Thursday (February 29th), a horrific accident occurred in the capital city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. A devastating fire broke out in a seven-story building on Beleghata Road, resulting in the deaths of 44 people. In this accident, 22 individuals sustained serious injuries. It took the fire brigade around 13 hours to extinguish the fire completely.
A total of 75 people were rescued from the building known as Green Cosy Cottage, including 42 infants. All of them were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where the 44 fatalities were confirmed.
Bangladesh’s Health Minister stated that around 9:50 PM tonight, a fire broke out in a restaurant, quickly spreading to the upper floors. Several other restaurants and a clothing store were also affected. According to reports, the fire was brought under control by midnight.

Bangladesh’s Health Minister, Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, informed the media that the treatment of 22 people is ongoing in hospitals. Their condition is critical. Those who have survived so far have suffered serious damage to their respiratory systems. Doctors attending to them say that some of the deceased have been badly burnt. Identifying them is difficult. There is concern that the number of fatalities may increase.
Major Fire Incidents in Bangladesh…
In 2012, a fire broke out in a garment factory in Dhaka, resulting in the deaths of 124 people. The fire occurred in a Tazreen Fashion factory located outside Dhaka. The blaze claimed the lives of 124 individuals. In an attempt to save themselves, workers jumped from the upper floors of the newly constructed building. Many died as a result of jumping from the building. The cause of the fire is believed to have been a short circuit.
