Ukraine Attack Victim Hemil Mangukiya Laid to Rest in Umra Village After 26 Days

The lifeless body of Hemil Mangukiya (23), who lost his life in the missile attack near Velanja in Ukraine, arrived in Delhi 25 days later on March 16. From there, he arrived at Surat Airport on Saturday morning in an IndiGo flight. Later, he was placed in the cold room of a mortuary. Today, on the 26th day of Hemil’s demise, his body was brought to his hometown Umra, and the final journey proceeded to Kailashdham with a solemn procession from his home.

Hemil Mangukiya, a native of Banglows in Shiv area near Velanja, worked as a security helper in Russia amidst the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He fell victim to the missile attack in Ukraine. Following his demise, Hemil’s family was engulfed in sorrow. The embassy assured the family that the body would be sent back in a few days. However, without clear communication from the embassy, three family members, along with his father, departed for Moscow. Upon Hemil’s body being brought to Delhi after his death, it was transported to Surat, where his father and uncle arrived from Moscow. His body was kept in the hospital’s cold room.

The Deceased’s Final Journey Home

This morning, the deceased’s body was brought home. The family, heavy-hearted, arranged for his final rites, and a solemn procession proceeded to Kailash Dham, a village in Kamrej. Many locals joined in the procession.

Body Arrived in Surat After 25 Days

Hemil Mangukiya, a youth from Surat, who worked as a security helper amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict, succumbed to death in a drone attack in Ukraine. Following his demise, his family was distraught. Later, the embassy informed the family that the body would be sent within a few days. Afterward, without any further communication from the embassy, three individuals, along with Hemil’s father, departed for Russia. Following the arrival of Hemil’s body in Delhi after being brought from Surat, it was then transported to Surat, where his father also arrived from Moscow. Thus, Hemil’s body was kept in the hospital’s cold room. Upon opening the coffin, Hemil’s face was observed, indicating a tragic end. According to Russian tradition, a shooting will be arranged for the body to be sent back.

The family members made arrangements to bring Hemil’s body to Russia, and visa applications were also submitted. According to the family’s information, Hemil’s body will be brought to India in a few days. However, when some days passed without any updates, Hemil’s father, uncle, and three others left for Russia. There, they reached Moscow. Meanwhile, it was learned today that Hemil’s body was brought from Delhi to Surat via IndiGo cargo plane.
