Booking Commencement for Fourth Generation Maruti Suzuki Swift: Car with Z-Series 1.2-Liter Petrol Engine and ADAS Safety Features

Maruti Suzuki India is set to launch the facelift version of its most popular car, the Swift, in India on May 9, 2024. Anticipating the public’s interest, several Maruti Arena dealerships have initiated offline bookings, observing a keen inclination towards the car.

The new Swift is poised to be a key launch for Maruti this year. Following this, the company plans to introduce the new Dzire compact sedan into the market by the end of the year.

According to media reports, the next-generation Swift, codenamed YED, will come equipped with six airbags and advanced safety features like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

Maruti’s parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, had unveiled the fourth-generation Swift at the Tokyo Auto Show, showcasing its cutting-edge advancements.

The most significant change in the popular hatchback will be in its powertrain, as the new Z-Series petrol engine will offer the most significant difference. Replacing the current K12 four-cylinder petrol engine, the new Z-Series will feature a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, generating 90hp of power and 113Nm of torque.

Details about the transmission of the new Swift have not been announced yet, but it is expected to offer options of a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. Additionally, there are expectations for CNG and hybrid engine options to be offered alongside.

While discussions about design often harken back to its older iterations, the new Swift offers many fresh design elements up close. Its front fascia boasts projector setup headlights with integrated LED daytime running lamps, accentuating a sharp look. Between the headlights lies a dark chrome-finished honeycomb pattern black grille, adding to the redesigned appearance.

The company’s logo is now positioned above the grille and under the bonnet. Changes are also evident in the front bumper, with several tweaks, and the fog lamps now feature a separate housing, lending a cleaner look.

Besides 16-inch alloy wheels, there are no significant changes in the side profile. The rear tail lights have been revamped; they now appear smaller and sportier. A hybrid badging is now present on the tailgate.

The new Swift is slightly longer, wider, and taller than the outgoing model, by 15mm, 40mm, and 30mm respectively, while maintaining the same wheelbase of 2,450mm. The company refers to it as the fourth-generation model, while the new generation Swift is based on the Heartect platform.

It features a 9.0-inch floating infotainment system, sleek AC vents, and a new dashboard layout with HVAC controls below. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car technology, steering-mounted controls, and automatic climate control.

Next Generation Swift: Features

The new Swift will come with many advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features, including a 360-degree camera and dual sensor brake support, adaptive high beam assist, driver monitoring system, and collision mitigation braking system.

Additionally, ventilated seats, auto hold with electronic parking brake, and six airbags will also be available.

New Generation Swift: Price and Availability

With the addition of new features and design enhancements, the price of the current model Swift starts at ₹5.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

After the inclusion of new features and designs, the new Swift is expected to start from ₹6.3 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with rivals like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago in India.
