CJI Praises New Criminal Laws for Society: Chandrachud Commends Govt’s Introduction of Three New Acts

The Chief Justice stated that the biggest flaw in old laws (IPC, CRPC, Evidence Act) was that they were very old. These laws were in force since 1860 and 1873. The introduction of new laws by the Parliament is a clear message that India is changing, and we need new paths to face current challenges, which we are getting through new laws. He mentioned that according to new laws, audio-visual recording will be done during trials to ensure the security of citizens along with the complainant.

Adoption of New Laws

According to the Chief Justice, the adoption of these laws by Parliament is a clear indication that India is changing and moving forward, and to face current challenges, the necessity of new laws is being adopted. The Indian Penal Code, Indian Civil Protection Act, and Indian Evidence Act will come into effect from July 1, 2024. With the implementation of these laws, old laws IPC, CRPC, and Evidence Act will be repealed.

Enforcement of New Laws

The Indian Penal Code, Indian Civil Protection Act, and Indian Evidence Act will come into effect from July 1, 2024. These laws were passed by Parliament on December 21, 2023. After being ratified by President Draupadi Murmu on December 25, the three bills became laws.
