₹40,000 Crore COVID Scam Allegation Sparks Political Turmoil in Karnataka

The Karnataka state government is facing political unrest after BJP legislator Basanagouda Patil Yatnal accused the previous Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s government of a ₹40,000 crore COVID scam. Yatnal asserted that during Yediyurappa’s tenure, the government indulged in corrupt practices, including charging exorbitant prices for masks during the pandemic.

Yatnal claimed that the government, under Yediyurappa, ordered masks at ₹45 each but sold them for ₹485, reaping huge profits. He further alleged that Yediyurappa’s son was also involved in corruption. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah challenged Yatnal to submit all relevant documents to the probe panel, stating that if the allegations were true, strict action would be taken.

The political turmoil has prompted discussions within the BJP, with party leaders expressing concerns about the potential damage to the party’s reputation. The BJP aims to address the allegations internally and safeguard its credibility.

The ongoing controversy has also brought to light the issues of corruption and profiteering during the COVID-19 pandemic, raising questions about accountability and transparency in the government’s actions. The political landscape in Karnataka is likely to witness further developments as the probe into the alleged scam progresses.
